Japanese Newspaper

Postby spamurai » Fri Mar 16, 2012 12:27 pm

Hello everyone ^_^

I was recommended to come here from someone at JapanForum.com.
I hope i've put this in the correct section.

I'm looking to get a hold of a recent Japanese Newpaper.
I live in England, UK.

Does anyone know any websites that import back issues of Japanese newspapers?
Or maybe a site i can subscribe?

Or maybe someone could post me one?

I know there are websites available where you can download them, but i'm really after a physical copy of one.

Any tips would be great.
Thanks.

OCS there is the "official" way to get the newspapers listed on that site, by the way. If you're looking for a recommendation for a general newspaper, I personally prefer the Asahi.

May I ask why you prefer Asahi?
I ask because they would be my absolute last choice for unbiased and decent news. They have suffered scandal after scandal over making up stories, being bribed not to report things, accepting tons of money from "special interest groups" to publish libelous articles about opponents, flat out paparazzi tactics, etc etc etc.
The majority of their news may be alright, but I would choose any major newspaper on the market over Asahi. When you know how many times they have falsified things and put heavy political spin on even mundane things, it makes it very hard to trust anything they put out.

It is like Fox News in the US - there is spin on almost everything. The phrase "アサヒる" exists for a reason...

To be honest, I'm not a big reader of news/newspapers, but it is my understanding that the Asahi leans to the political left, which is how I prefer my news to be spun (since they all do to some degree or another). If you have any recommendations for other left-of-center papers, I'd be happy to hear them.

Mainichi, perhaps? I understand that they are more to the left but don't carry the mass of baggage that Asahi does.
I myself usually get my news online, and not via a newspaper, but honestly - anything that comes from Asahi prompts me to doubt it. There is spin, and then there is flat out falsification. Asahi falls well beyond the spin line, in my opinion.
They just accept way too much money and support from North Korea, China, and "Asian Interest" groups... and their treatment of any news related to Asia (or Japan, or any other international matter) reflects that far too much for my taste.

I guess they are popular with foreigners because of how incredibly negative and critical of anything and everything Japanese they are...

We subscribe to Chunichi, but that is more because of local coverage and local interest rather than any political sort of spin. I personally prefer my news to be as close to neutral as possible - I can apply spin on my own without having someone filter things for me.

Fox News is popular in the states cause they made a good buisiness model, if everyone else is selling hotdogs, it's a good chance all those folks who like burgers will eat at your place if you sell burgers..
